12 June 2015

Rachel from Australia tells us how her sustainable business was born!

The fashion industry is evolving and increasing his awareness about the eco-sustainability! Because of it were born some activities using environmentally sustainable and ethical materials as well as collaborate with local artisans often from developing countries and producing respecting the criteria of fair trade.

Rachel, the founder of the brand Moonbirdloves to use her creative skills in a way that cares of people, the planet and helps women to feel good about themselves.
In fact Moonbird use only certified organic cotton and all dyes are environmentally friendly.

Let's see what Rachel says of her sustainable commitment!

How was your business born, and why did you decide to start an eco-friendly activity?

My background skills in costume-making for films naturally transitioned into designing fashion. Questioning the sustainability of fashion early on made me realise people should not have to decide whether to buy ethical or beautiful as I believe it should be both. I couldn’t find a suitable product that met these terms in sleepwear so that’s when Moonbird was born.

As a conscious consumer, I started designing organic cotton sleepwear that focussed on empowering the communities whom made them. It is important to me to employ artisans through fair trade principles. To inform our customers about sustainable eco living practises and furthermore preventing garments or fabrics going to landfill by using the off-cuts to make children's underwear achieving zero wastage.

What is the most beautiful thing your customers tell you?

It’s always beautiful to hear back from our customers who love sleeping in soft Moonbird pyjamas in terms of quality but on another level it’s validating when you hear that they have learnt about the impact of garment processes on our environment.

Describe eco-sustainability according to you, in 5 words:

Using organic natural resources responsibly.
